What will replace the newspaper?
10/09/2008
Big city newspapers are having a harder time staying in business each year. The current economic considtions are not the smoking gun to the fallen print media organizations. People have come to expect more for less and this trend is increasing.
BusinessWeek just published a well written article on this subject http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/08_40/b4102077743556.htm
The article states that yearly ad falloffs at many newspapers have surpassed 15% a year. The main factor seems to be the many cheaper online substitutes are destroying revenue for their old time counterparts.
Then the question becomes, is there going to be a post-newspaper media economy? and who emerges as the natural online source for news and business information?
Only time will reveal the winners and losers, so stay tuned to idahofalls.com as we keep and eye on this trend.
